“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
Jesus’ parting command to the disciples in Matthew 28 is to make disciples of all nations. This is a call to look beyond our families, our cities and our countries and ultimately to the ends of the earth. The disciples’ heart was for the whole world and they were aware that the salvation offered through Christ was for all people.
This is a challenging command! There is so much need for evangelization in our own communities that to hope to reach the world may seem too daunting at task, simply unrealistic. How can we affect the spiritual journeys of people all around the globe?
It is true that we may not all be missionaries in a foreign country, but our heart and concern is for all people to be saved by Christ. As seen in his last words to his disciples, this is Christ’s heart, so it must also be ours. Through peer-to-peer ministry and one on one relationship, CCO imparts a vision to students to have an impact on the world. Our hearts cry out for Canada, for each student on each university campus. This is the primary mission field to which God has directed us; but just as strongly, the heart of a CCO missionary cries out for the students in Asia, in Africa, in South America, in Europe. Our hearts desire that each and every person in the world would come to know Jesus in a personal way and choose to live in the fullness of the Catholic faith. And for this we labor, building up leaders here on our Canadian campuses – because some of these leaders will go to other countries, whether as full-time missionaries or in some secular career. And these former students will be equipped to proclaim the Gospel wherever they go, inviting people into a relationship with Jesus, and in turn building leaders for the renewal of the world.
The whole world reached for Christ – now that’s a thought that sets our hearts ablaze!
