Friends Matter

In the fall of 2012 I moved to Calgary to start my degree in nursing at the University of Calgary. When I first moved I knew no one, and began making friends with a lot of the other students in my dormitory. We spent the first week of university at the bars and clubs, and after that I felt like I needed to find a new crowd.

I started going to daily mass on campus, and that is where I found out about a Catholic Fall retreat that the University of Calgary Catholic Community and Catholic Christian Outreach put on twice a year. It was at the retreat that I met other young Catholics who were passionate about their faith. That is when a group of us came up with the idea of having weekly prayer group on campus where we could come together to pray, reflect, share, and do some praise and worship. We started off as a small group that met in my dorm room every Wednesday evening, but by the second semester we started having the prayer group in the student centre so that others could join us.

We have been so blessed through all the help we have received from different individuals and God has given us a lot of grace to keep the prayer meetings going. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for this group in the future!
