My Story
Hi there!
I’m Brandon, a student of Archaeology hailing from my home city of Calgary, Alberta. I’m currently studying at Trent University in Ontario, but my heart is also always close to home in the West. If you couldn’t tell from my uncommon major, I have a passion for history, old books, and digging in the dirt for old things. I like to think this makes me a pretty down to earth person, who likes cracking jokes and puns. I’m also a big fan of meeting new people and going to new places, and even more so when I get a chance to share Jesus with them while doing it. When I’m not volunteering on my campus’ Catholic club, I like to work on my creative writing, play with my Dog Lexy (when I’m back in Alberta) or play nerdy board games with my friends. I’m also a bit of a geek for movies, TV shows, Video games, cooking, and ways to make my favourite beverage: Coffee. On the faith side of things, I love going to Eucharistic Adoration to spend time with Jesus, reading the church fathers and cracking open my bible to read the book of Sirach (One of my favourite parts of scripture).
Why do I want to be on Mission?
Ever since I had my conversion in High School, I’ve been looking for ways that I can give glory back to God and share what he did for me with others. He’s been the foundation of my life, and through my own ministry on my Campus, i’ve been able to see just how dramatically and positively an encounter with him can transform someone’s life. Mission is a perfect opportunity to bring this to others, and going to Rome in particular allows me to live out my charism for cultivating international friendships. It’s also a way for me to live out of the spirit of the Jubilee year and to be a pilgrim of Hope for those who aren’t able to physically go on mission.
The spirit motivating my mission perfectly fits in a quote from Saint Gregory the Great: “The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist.”
