Hi, my name is Cesar Membreno-Hanon, I live in Toronto, and I am really excited to have the opportunity to partake in CCO’s World Youth Day 2019 Mission! Let me share with you a little about myself.

I’m thankful for my parents for raising me in the Catholic faith. Growing up, I always sought opportunities that would bring me closer to God. After graduating from high school in the summer of 2013, I went on a month-long pilgrimage to South America that concluded by attending World Youth Day in Brazil. That year, the theme was “Go and Make Disciples of All Nations” (Matthew 28:19), and during those days I realized how much I loved Jesus and that He played a very important role in my life. Hearing Pope Francis say “But now you must go, now you must pass on this experience to others” made me realize that I wanted others to experience Christ’s Love as well, but how?

In my first year at Ryerson University, where I studied Civil Engineering, I joined the Catholic Students Association. There, I learned from CCO Missionaries that a life with Christ at the centre is fulfilling and sharing Christ with others can further bring you so much joy. On December 30th of 2013, I placed Jesus at the centre of my life and placed my trust in God that, with His guidance, I would also commit myself to the New Evangelization and bring others to love Him as well. In the following years, I joyfully served the Ryerson Catholic community, leading CCO Faith Studies and challenging others to grow in faith. In 2016, I attended World Youth Day again, this time in Poland, where once again, I felt how Jesus called me by name to continue to bring His Love and Mercy to others. My missionary zeal continued to grow.

After finishing my university degree in 2017, I went on a mission trip with CCO to Honduras, where I, along with university students from other parts of Canada, trained Honduran university students on how to evangelize. We continue to see the fruits of this mission to this day as we hear our Honduran friends share stories with us about how their peers are coming to experience God’s love personally and how their ministry is growing. Ironically, for the first time I understood thanks to this trip what it means to have a Heart for the World. There are many people out there, lost, waiting to hear the Gospel, desiring to experience Jesus personally, and I can be the one who helps them come back to God, the Father.

Today, I continue to hear God calling my name, entrusting me with the task of building His Kingdom. At St. Timothy’s, my home parish, I have been a Youth Ministry Leader for the last year, where I enjoy sharing my faith with teenagers, who I wish to inspire to live a Christ-centered life. Witnessing them come to love Christ more, brings me so much joy. I feel blessed that my own journey has given me the ability and desire to be able to intentionally accompany others in their faith journey. Currently, I am challenged with seeing how I can also help revive my parish’s Young Adult Ministry.

World Youth Day 2019 in Panama will be a blast! I am really hyped for this mission and can’t wait to encounter youth and young adult participants and also help them experience God’s Love personally.

Whether it be financially or prayerfully, I would kindly appreciate your support in this mission. Thank you for your time, prayers, and consideration.
