I was so ready to give God my everything: my talents, my strength, my life. I found the opportunity to discern my vocation at a very early age. When I was 14 years old, I left home to join the “minor” seminary which is a boarding school run by the Legionaries of Christ where boys will discern religious life. After graduation, I further continued my discernment in the major seminary.

However, after a couple of months, I lost the desire to pursue such a calling. However, I did not just lose my desire to become a priest. I lost my faith. Not that I no longer believed that He exists, but that He was the One who can make me happy. I still went to mass, said some prayers and was part of a youth group. But I wanted nothing to do with Him. I was afraid of what He would be asking of me, thinking that His plan for me will make me miserable. I questioned, does God really want what is best for me?

Soon after joining CCO, someone invited me to make God the centre of my life. Reluctant at first, I still listened. He read the quote from Pope Benedict XVI saying, “Do not be afraid of Christ. He takes away and gives you everything.” It was not the first time hearing this, but this struck me hard at that moment. Maybe we do have a Father who would give us bread when we ask for bread, or fish when we ask for fish.
I am David Jung, a student in Biomedical Sciences pursuing a profession in the healthcare field. However, I want to be working in healthcare as a Christian. I find that this opportunity to New York will help me solidify my relationship with Christ, set a real foundation in my faith and renew my apostolic zeal. We will be partnering with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, joining them in their ministry with the poor. There, I hope to instill hope and peace in the people I meet, have inspiring conversations, and pray with them for the conversion of their soul. Therefore, I ask for your support to help me to become the man God is calling me to be. I understand if you cannot help me financially. If so, please support me spiritually. I do need your prayers.

I appreciate your generosity, and may you find hope and peace in your life. God Bless!
