What up fam!

My name is Dean Aclera and I am a fifth year student in the studies of Applied Animal Biology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) going to graduate this coming May! My university career simply would not be complete without going on a mission trip, specifically to THE city of New York City. And here is the reason why.
I grew up the classic cultural Catholic boy simply going through the motions, but I was missing something that I did not know at the time. It began in my high school career, but it was when I went into university that it struck.
My first year of university was rough. First time having a below average GPA and not having gone to Confession since I was in high school. During clubs days in the beginning of my second year as a student of Simon Fraser University at the time, I encountered the Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) table. I was looking for a club to fully commit to as last year I did your classic first year keener things of joining 20 clubs but never committed to any. Joining CCO was just the beginning of my YES to the Lord!

Fast forward a year and I have transferred to UBC and I reconnected right away with CCO over there! It was the Spring Retreat there that my life was changed for the better. The continuous want for community and love for others is what made the man I am today and why I want to go on mission, this mission specifically.

Being inspired through the story in the beginning of John 4, I want to be that missionary just as Jesus did to go where no one else at a first glance would choose to go! And that is my plan in New York City. To help with that plan, I would like you to journey with me through any prayers or any financial support you feel called to give. All of this will go back to those who need it most.

Thank you for reading my profile and more information about me can be found on this website (https://blogs.ubc.ca/daclera/).

Thank you and God bless,
Dean Aclera
