My Story

I’m a second-year finance student at the University of Saskatchewan. In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano and guitar. I’m more extroverted, especially if you ask my teachers and peers. Growing up, I was a very loud person. My mom often stopped me while talking to say, “Ian… Decibel.” My loudness carried out through high school where I played trumpet in band, learned rock and roll songs on the piano, and often sang quite a bit, even in class.

I grew up in a regular Catholic household. There was never a question of whether or not this religion was the right one. It was a question of how I could get more out of this practice. To me, it felt boring and dull.

I found Catholic Christian Outreach during my first year on campus. I took a faith study in my second semester and loved it. I surrounded myself with people who wanted nothing but to share the love of the Lord. It felt different from anything I had encountered growing up. After the semester, I felt called to lead a faith study for the following term and found it extremely fruitful. Watching others grow interest in Christ and choosing his love filled me with unimaginable grace. I found the fraternity at CCO to be a place where I could come with all my struggles and joys in life. I was heard, loved and cared for. Currently, I am leading the same group of individuals in a second faith study. I have gotten to know and love them like brothers of mine.

Jesus has helped me grow in so many ways. I now consider prayer a necessity, and I look forward to the celebration of mass. I’m filled with Joy every time I talk with others about Jesus. Growing in relationship has allowed me to see the beauty in every person and the incredible journey he wants each of us to take.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

If you were to ask me a year ago If I was going on a mission to Ireland, I would have thought you were talking about a Mission Impossible movie. I can’t even begin comprehending what God has done in my life in the past year alone. He has a plan for every soul on the face of the earth, and I want to see where this incredible path will lead me. This road will be rough, dry, and long, but the fruit and those who come with me will be worth every pain-filled step.

I’m both scared and excited to go out and proclaim the word of God. The world is hurting now more than ever, and we need a relationship with Jesus. I want to bring this joy that I have experienced over the past year to others. I want to help others put Jesus at the center of their lives in any way, shape, or form.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

1 Chronicles 16: 24 “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”
