My name is Lorenzo D’Alessandro and I am yet another seminarian for the Archdiocese of Vancouver. I am in-or will have just finished depending on when you’re reading this-my fourth year of philosophy, which is crazy because I never thought I’d say that; it has been quite the ride.

I am a cradle Catholic, but didn’t really know Jesus until I profoundly encountered Him in my grade 10 year. I was angry, frustrated, depressed, and lonely to say the least; but, on the outside I was calm, patient, joyful, and amicable. Also, I loved playing all sports: at this time I played Football, Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball competitively. Soccer was my main sport, so much so that later on-actually after entering seminary- I had D1 scholarship offers. In short, on the outside it seemed like I had everything figured out, but clearly I didn’t, at all.
Anyway, God knew that I was a wreck, and intervened. This is where I experienced Jesus’ love for me: He knew everything that was going to happen to me, so He became man and saved me from it by dying and rising. wow. A few days later in prayer, the idea of the priesthood came up, and accompanied with that was an instant, deep peace. Long story short, I entered the high-school seminary for grade 12, and the college seminary thereafter and have been there ever since.
Other than sports, I enjoy coffee, talking about the MCU, reading, and just being with people.
I never thought I would be going on a mission trip, let alone to New York; if anything it would be to another CCO mission trip location, BUT, as St. Mother Teresa says, “The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty — it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.”
The western world needs to find God again, and I firmly believe that He is calling me to spread His love to those in our own culture through this mission trip. In light of that, your financial support goes a long way: it will help to aid this mission of filling despairing hearts with the Love of God, it will, God-willing, help my priesthood by being with the poor-both in spirit and in body. Thank-you for your support.
