Whenever I heard the word God, the first things that came to mind were father, powerful, infinite. My name is Mark, and I am a second year business student majoring in Supply Chain at the University of Calgary. Growing up as a cradle catholic, faith and belief in Christ was something introduced very early into my childhood. However, despite the loving support from my parents, I felt as though something about my faith was lacking. As I grew up, I began to form my own opinions and started to ask questions about my misconceptions of who I thought God was. It wasn’t until I was introduced to CCO where I was challenged to deepen my relationship with Jesus, and make it something personal to me. To say yes to following Him, and become a missionary disciple. I no longer thought of Him as just an infinite, powerful, fatherlike figure, but as my best friend, who never left my side.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

My view of CCO during my years at university was one that was changed very quickly from just a club on campus, to a home away from home. Everything from being a participant taking a faith study for the first time to being on the Executive Team on campus, CCO has completely changed my life. As a student leader on campus, the mission of evangelization and a heart for the lost has become a main focus for me in my faith journey. I’ve seen with my own eyes how the hearts and lives of others, including my own, change when introduced to a personal relationship with Jesus. Saint Paul in his letter to Timothy writes that Timothy must entrust what he has learned to faithful people, who will be able to teach others as well. Throughout my faith journey I have learned to take those words to heart, and refuse to let the message of who Jesus is end with me.
