My Story

Hi my name is Mikèla Lemieux, I am from a small town in eastern Ontario and am currently in my last year at the French teacher’s college. I grew up on a little hobby farm with my parents and two younger siblings. I love the outdoors, whether that’s canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, or playing hockey. When I am not outside you can find me reading, helping out at the youth group, or spending time in fellowship with the young adult group (usually playing board games).

I always thought that God existed but that He was distant and didn’t care much about me. This perspective radically changed when I attend a Catholic youth conference in high school. There I discovered that God was actually very close, that He loved me and that He wanted to have a personal relationship with me. This encounter with Christ set my life’s journey on a new path, I was now filled with this uncontainable joy that I absolutely needed to share with the whole world. This led me to be involved with youth and young adult ministry and also serving as a NET missionary for a year. Throughout the years these beautiful experiences have helped me grow in my own faith and in learning to share it with others.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Luke 10:2)
Everyone longs to be seen, loved, and known, their hearts are made to be fulfilled by Christ. However, so many in this world don’t know or haven’t been given an opportunity to encounter Him. Many of them are actually Catholics and they will be present at World Youth Day on this quest for their heart’s deepest desire.

Just like the disciples at Emmaus, I was to go on this mission to meet and journey with these pilgrims from across the world, to share my story and God’s love with them. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than to see people growing in their faith and choosing to live a Christ-centred life. I also truly believe that this will be a great opportunity to meet amazing people and grow in my own relationship with Christ.
