Hello! My name is Rachel, and thank you for taking the time to read my mission profile.

My identity is made up of many things. I am the first born girl to Simon and Daisy, and a sister to Eleanor and Therese. I am a fifth year Communication and International Studies student at Simon Fraser University. Other descriptors people call me by are friend, musician, writer, radio host, foodie, and survivor. But above all these, I am a Catholic and daughter of God.

I had the privileges of being raised in a loving Catholic home and attending Catholic school all throughout elementary and high school. But a series of challenges in my own life started to lead me down a destructive path of doubt in God’s goodness as well as His plan for my life. Pain, broken relationships and depression ultimately led me to a point where I shut every door to God and convinced myself that there was nothing good in the world to live for.

Though I had many encounters with God throughout my life, the most profound – and ultimately the moment that truly saved my life – was at CCO’s annual national conference, Rise Up, in 2016. I entered into the conference as a broken individual who was ready to end her own life out of despair. But as the conference continued, I saw myself change. God wanted to know me in such an intimate way that He broke down every wall to get through to me. In that moment, I was reassured that I didn’t need to be perfect or pretend to be someone I wasn’t. God said to me so clearly that night that He loved me regardless of how far I had fallen, and He was ready to bring me back to Him. All I needed was to open the door to Him.

CCO allowed me to not only grow in my own faith but share it with a loving community. Last year, I served as a member on the Executive Team at Simon Fraser University and worked alongside other students to bring Christ to as many students as we could. On this mission to World Youth Day in Panama, I am excited to take an even larger step of faith and bring Christ to another part of the world.

I would humbly ask you to keep the entire Panama mission team in your prayers, as well as the wellbeing of my family, my ongoing vocational discernment and my own mental health. Thank you for your support for our mission and God’s blessings always!

“…for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:13-14)

We lead evangelization missions around the world.
