Hello! My name is Reagan King. I’m a second-year student at the University of Saskatchewan studying history. I love movies, writing, and basketball! I am so blessed to be able to tell you some of my story and share how I came to participate in CCO’s upcoming mission to St. John’s, Newfoundland!

I was raised a baptized Catholic and attended Catholic elementary and high schools. However, by the time I entered my first year of university, I gave no consideration to faith. I didn’t attend mass, had no idea what a “personal relationship” with Jesus even meant, and hesitated to acknowledge God’s existence. I threw myself into my studies and convinced myself that the money and recognition at the end of the tunnel would satisfy the strong ache I felt in my heart.
My older brother Gavin was the one to introduce me to the CCO community in Saskatoon. I couldn’t tell you how amazed I was at the sincerity, kindness, and love of the young Catholics I met. I soon took CCO’s Discovery faith study and began to learn who God really was.
I had never heard that God desires to have a personal relationship with me, and I had never understood that I truly needed Jesus.

My experience with the community and the faith study opened my heart to attend CCO’s Rise Up 2017 conference in Ottawa. There I received the sacrament of reconciliation for the first time in over ten years. It was a profound experience of my God’s merciful love for me, and my whole life was changed! I soon became an active student member on campus. After helping out at the St. Francis Xavier relic tour, I was inspired to participate in CCO’s mission trip to Honduras last summer.

Honduras was incredible and life-changing in countless ways. I saw people come to experience God for the first time, personally experienced the power of the Holy Spirit, and made lasting friendships with both Honduran and Canadian missionaries. I remember telling another student that I wasn’t upset to return to Canada because I knew it wouldn’t be long before I had the chance to participate in another mission. That being said, I had no idea at the time that God would call me to participate in the St. John’s mission this year!

I am overjoyed at the thought of helping to strengthen and renew the parish community of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. I will join several other young Catholics in calling parishioners into personal conversion through sharing faith studies and materials that reveal the core of the gospel message. The city of St. John’s holds a special place in my heart as well. I’d call myself a true Saskatonian, born and raised! However, besides my two parents, two dogs, and two brothers, nearly my whole family lives near St. John’s. I have loved the city my entire life, and it truly feels like home whenever we visit.

I am responsible for raising $3150 in financial support for my participation in this mission. Please pray for my fellow mission participants and I as we prepare for St. John’s! I also humbly ask you to prayerfully consider supporting me in this exciting opportunity.

God Bless!
