Welcome, my name is Shaye!
I’m an 18-year-old, first-year engineering student, currently studying at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. I was born just outside of Vancouver, BC, but have spent most of my life in Calgary, AB. Growing up in Calgary has given me a love for the mountains, and I spend time outside hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. I’ve been involved in my faith community since I was 14 years old, which has included youth leadership in my parish youth group, leading worship, as well as organizing and speaking at events as Student Faith Representative at my old high school, St. Mary’s.
I first got involved with CCO in Calgary, in the spring of my grade 12 year. Coming to university in a completely new city, I felt that I would find a place and a purpose in my ministry through CCO. I am loving being a witness to the beautiful ways that God is working in the lives of others through me, and those around me. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to speak at the Winter Formal, lead and take faith studies, serve in the worship band, attend the Student Leadership Gathering in Calgary, and now go on mission to Halifax! I’m so excited to serve and to see all of the amazing ways that the Lord will work through this mission.
Why do I want to be on Mission?
Something that I have learned so clearly in my first year of university is the importance of letting go of my need for control and entrusting my life to Jesus. This year, Jesus has shown me again and again that His plans are not my plans, and His ways are not my ways. One of the ways that He has done this is by calling me to go on this mission!
I know that I have been incredibly blessed to come to know Jesus in a personal way. I believe that with this blessing comes another beautiful gift: the responsibility to share. I have always had a passion for evangelism, and the Halifax mission is a fantastic opportunity for me to take this deeper. I know that I am called to set the world on fire through the spreading of Jesus’ love, and His Word. As well as bringing others closer to the heart of Christ, I look forward to drawing closer to Him myself. There is so much that I am so excited to learn, through deepening my prayer life, witnessing the love of others, and fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ.
