Hi! My name is Fiona. I am so excited to be working with CCO this year at St. Mary’s University in Halifax! Here is a little bit about me.
I am blessed to have grown up in a loving Catholic family in my hometown of Ottawa with my parents, grandparents and two younger sisters. My faith was always an important aspect of my life, however looking back I was often only going through motions of what was expected of me. I didn’t believe that God desired to know me and love me in a personal way.
When I got to university, I started searching for love and happiness in worldly things; like the partying culture and unhealthy relationships. I didn’t see a need for God in my life and I eventually stopped attending Mass all together. By the end of my second year of university, my anxiety was at an all time high, I was sleeping through my classes and I felt a lack of purpose and meaning in my life.
At the start of my third year of university, a CCO missionary invited me to take a faith study where I heard the Gospel message proclaimed to me in a clear and simple way. Later that semester, while attending a night of adoration with CCO, I experienced an overwhelming realization of Jesus’s deep and personal love for me. I went to confession for the first time in many years and was set free from all the sins that had been weighing on me for so long. Then, I prayed a simple prayer to invite Jesus to be at the center of my life. Since that moment, I have experienced a deep peace and hope that can only come from living out a personal relationship with Christ. It was also that night that I remember thinking “Jesus is real and everyone needs to know about Him!!”. My heart was set on fire with a desire to bring more souls back to Christ just as I had experienced.
Now, as a full-time missionary with CCO, I have the great privilege of being able to accompany students to Jesus in the same way that I was accompanied; by proclaiming the Gospel to them, journeying with them and equipping them to become leaders who will go out and share their faith with others. My great expectation is that university campuses will be transformed by the love and mercy of Christ and that students will be equipped to go out as leaders in the mission and renew the world one person at a time!
“I say to you, dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.”- Pope Benedict XVI
ONGOING PRAYER REQUESTS
Please keep the students at St. Mary’s in your prayers; that the Lord would open their hearts to receive the Gospel message and that they will experience the deep love and mercy that comes from a relationship with Christ.
For myself, that I may be abandoned to God’s will for my life and may be able to persevere in this mission with courage and humility.
I will be praying for you as well! God Bless.
