I was born in Toronto, Ontario, and moved to Vaughan, Ontario, in 2001. Growing up, faith was always an important aspect of our family life. My parents, Diosdado and Flordeliza, raised my brother, Richard, my sister, Michelle, and I to live in the fullness of our faith by taking us to Mass every Sunday and getting us involved within the parish community. It was through my parish, St. Joseph the Worker, where I really felt that sense of belonging.

I continued to grow in my faith through high school.

It wasn’t until I started post-secondary studies at Ryerson University, in downtown Toronto, where I started feeling lost. As a vulnerable first-year student, I decided to neglect my faith and find a community within a group of friends (none of whom were practising Catholics) where I thought I felt that sense of belonging.

CCO came to Ryerson during my second year and that was also when I took my first faith study: Discovery. It was through Discovery where I really learned about God’s love and the personal decision to choose Him. During Rise Up 2015 in Montréal, after Reconciliation, I chose to put Christ at the centre of my life and started taking my Catholic faith seriously. I got more involved with CCO through Ryerson Catholics in my upcoming years. It was through that student group, and through the CCO Missionaries, where I truly found a community where I felt like I belonged on the university campus.

I am joining CCO in their Headquarters in Ottawa as part of the Finance team. After graduating from Ryerson University with my Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and minoring in Law, I felt a desire to share my knowledge and experience with this amazing organization that has had such an impact on my life. God has given me gifts and talents throughout my undergraduate career that I am excited to share with this organization.

I ask you to pray for the openness of all university students, that they may be willing to hear the gospel and live out the Catholic faith. Please also pray for my family, friends and supporters – that they may continue to grow in their faith and seize any opportunities to evangelize.
