Hello, my name is Jose Lopez. I’m currently finished my third year at Simon Fraser University, and I’m in the faculty of Interactive Arts and Technology. I have decided to take the opportunity to become a missionary for CCO.

I grew up in a devout Mexican Catholic family and came to Canada when I was 4 years old. I went to public school until grade 8, during which I was involved in the PREP program at my parish. This helped me become confident in my knowledge of my faith but my relationship with God was very superficial. Something that helped me to make a personal connection with God from a young age was Altar Serving, because I was able to help at the most important prayer our faith has to offer. I’ve always looked up to my two older sisters who have always demonstrated their great love for their faith- that made me strive for a stronger faith myself. In Gr. 8, I got the chance to go to Archbishop Carney where I continued to grow deeper in my faith and got involved in many extracurricular activities. I joined my youth Group at my parish which began my journey with God on a more intimate level. The leaders of my youth Group were so inspiring I just wanted to be like them. I developed good friendships with all of them and I couldn’t wait to join them as a leader myself.

When I graduated, I immediately joined as a leader and I began getting a lot more active in volunteering; I now teach PREP for Gr. 7, I’m the coordinator for Youth Group at my parish. That same year after my graduation, I joined CCO and automatically developed great friendships and connections making me feel at home in the community. I have now taken most of the CCO Faith Studies and have become very involved in various events including the monthly Summits, Rise Up 2016, Spring Banquet, and recently the Spring Retreat that CCO held.

I am extremely thankful for all that God has blessed me with, the friends with whom He has surrounded me, the responsibilities He’s given me, the challenges through which He has guided me and most importantly the loving family He gave me. Having been given so much, I believe that a great way to give back is by offering my time and commitment on a mission trip. I was very blessed to have gone on a 3 week mission trip to Honduras where we trained young Adults like me to be effective leaders in their own ministry. Thanks to that opportunity of going on a mission trip, coordinating my youth group and teaching PREP for confirmation year, I am so passionate about sharing my faith and find it the most important responsibility at the moment.

I ask that you prayerfully consider being part of this mission and joining my team: becoming a monthly supporter both through your prayers and financial support.

“My direct contact with peoples who do not know Christ has convinced me even more of the urgency of missionary activity” – St. John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio
