February Break Mission: Mexico City 2019

February 15th – 24th, 2019

October 31st 2018

Approx. $2350

Just as in Jonas’ time, so too today may we commit ourselves to conversion; may we be signs lighting the way and announcing salvation. This time for conversion, this time for salvation, is the time for mercy.  And so, let us say together in response to the suffering on so many faces: In your compassion and mercy, Lord, have pity on us … cleanse us from our sins and create in us a pure heart, a new spirit (cf. Ps 50).” Pope Francis, Homily in Mexico, Feb. 2016

With an estimated population of over 30,000,000, Mexico City is one of the largest concentrations of humanity in the world and it is here that Our Lady chose to appear, and here that Our Lady of Guadalupe has been named the Star of the New Evangelization. Join us for 10 days as we connect with Mexican students, training them in CCO’s outreach methods, and how to use our evangelistic materials, especially the Ultimate Relationship booklet, and the Discovery faith study. We will also be connecting with the homeless of Mexico City, sharing Christ’s love and lending a listening ear.

Finally, we will have the opportunity to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Here we’ll intercede for our mission, for Mexico, for CCO’s ministry on campus, and the world.

The Mexico City mission is an exciting and challenging opportunity for students who are beginning their leadership experience with CCO. From February 15th – 24th, 2019, we will be collaborating with Craig Johring of Hope of the Poor Ministries for a vibrant schedule that includes engaging with the poorest of the poor of Mexico City, Catholic university students, as well as the opportunity to make pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Participants will have amazing opportunities to pray, worship, and encounter God in one of the most powerful religious sites in North America, and have an opportunity to begin, or deepen your relationship with Our Lady, the Mother of Jesus, who in turn will deepen your relationship with her Son, Jesus Christ.

In addition, the character and inspiration of St. Mother Teresa will inspire the Mission Team as we engage in corporal works of mercy to the poorest of the poor, walking around the streets of Mexico City doing ‘carrito’ ministry and feeding the poor and homeless, spending time with the poor in the Mexico City landfill, and working with homeless youth involved with Craig’s ministry.

Lastly, we will be spending time with local university students of Mexico City. A predominantly Catholic nation, the youth of Mexico City have a deep need to hear the Gospel clearly and simply, and be raised up to be the leaders for the renewal of their city and country. It’s our hope and great expectation that by accompanying them through their journey of faith, we would be able to model and witness to Catholic missionary identity in a lasting and powerful way that builds a legacy in Mexico City.

Hear from the student missionaries who have served on previous Mexico missions:

“I came into the mission with an open heart and He (God) just took it and transformed it every single day. Although I always acknowledged the need for evangelization, this mission I learned to let go of my fears and learn to abandon myself to His will.”

“What struck me the most about this experience was how blessed CCO campuses are. The students [shared] how they cannot be an ‘official’ student group under the university because they are affiliated with Religion [but] this didn’t stop them from going on their campuses and proclaiming the good news! This truly inspired me to go to my home campus and to be fearless in proclamation as well.”

“I grew in confidence in sharing my faith. Also giving my full abandonment to the Lord, was amazing. When we were doing outreach on campus, we would ask something and receive so much more than what we asked for!”

Mexico City 2019 will cost approximately $3000 CND. This money will cover the costs for:

  • Orientation & training
  • Accommodations
  • Travel from Canada to Mexico
  • Most meals

The cost does not include:

  • Medical expenses before (ie. vaccinations needed) or during the mission (ie travel insurance)
  • Travel to the orientation location in Canada and home from there after the project is concluded

Each CCO Missions participant has the opportunity to fundraise the entire cost of their mission trip through tax-deductible donations. Consider this: fundraising allows people who may not have the opportunity to travel on a mission project to participate in this essential work by donating towards your participation. In another sense, “some give by going, while others go by giving.” Allowing others to support us through their financial commitments and prayers is essential to the success of CCO Missions!

There is a $300 non-refundable payment due upon acceptance, the remainder of the cost must be paid according to the payment schedule that you will receive in your acceptance package.

Finally, we’re here to help you! We know support raising can seem intimidating. In you acceptance package we’ll provide you with a number of tools that will help be more confident in raising support. And of course, you can always get in touch with us by email at missions@cco.ca, or by phone, 613-736-1999.

We lead evangelization missions around the world.
