Nicaragua, a tropical paradise situated in Central America, is located between the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. Regardless of it beauty, Nicaragua is Central America’s poorest country: 75% of Nicaraguans live on less than $2 US per day, and 48% live below the poverty line.

This summer Catholic Christian Outreach will be sending a team to the land where the streets have no name (literally). Nicaragua has the youngest population in the world; the median age is 21. These youth are precisely who we’ll be working with. We will be partnering with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in the city of Matagalpa, to reach out to members of  the Corazón Puro (Pure Heart) ministry. These young leaders are on fire for their faith, but just lack some of the skills and tools to be able to reach out and share their faith with their friends. We’ve been invite to come and help them grow in this area.

The mission will begin with a time of orientation in Ottawa, where you’ll meet and get to know the rest mission team. Also during this time you’ll receive some great training to prepare you for our outreach, so don’t be afraid to apply even if you don’t feel equipped. We’ll help you with that!

Do you want to go on the adventure of a lifetime? Do you want to take you faith to the next level? Do you want to experience authentic Christian community? Do you want to build new friendships with people from new cultures? Apply for this mission!

If you’re able to speak spanish, we have a particular need for you on this mission since most students in Nicaragua are unable to speak English. However, this does not mean that English speaking applicants will not be considered and/or accepted!

Our mission will begin with a time of orientation at CCO HQ in Ottawa. Over these two days you’ll spend time getting to know your teammates, praying for the mission, and receiving training to be able to use and train people in CCO’s evangelistic materials.

After orientation we’ll then fly to Nicaragua, where we’ll be partnering with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal to work with Nicaraguan university students. Our hope is to help them establish their own campus movement, to be able to more effectively reach out to the students on their campus.

Other potential elements of this mission may include speaking opportunities in local schools; outreach to the poor through street ministry and soup kitchens. Mission details and schedule will be updated as more info becomes available.

“I learned that I am capable of more, and of greater things that I ever would have thought. Learning this only came when I was in situations where I had to rely completely on God.”

“This mission taught me to surrender myself to God’s will. I learned the importance of evangelizing and that all who are baptized are called to be missionary, it’s in our spiritual DNA. For the longest time I tried to deny this part of myself. Everyone desires to be in relationship with God, we just need to say yes and commit ourselves to Him.”

“Because of this mission I can’t imagine not living my faith. I felt like my missionary identity is permanently embedded in my heart, mind and soul. I feel like I’ve wasted years not acting on my missionary call, and now I want to make up for it. My heart is on fire for the conversion of souls and I believe it is Christ in me who is lighting the fire.”

Nicaragua 2018 will cost approximately $3100 CND. This money will cover the costs for:

  • Orientation & training
  • Accommodations
  • Travel from Canada to Nicaragua
  • Most meals

The cost does not include:

  • Medical expenses before (ie. vaccinations needed) or during the mission (ie travel insurance)
  • Travel to the orientation location in Canada and home from there after the project is concluded

Each CCO Missions participant has the opportunity to fundraise the entire cost of their mission trip through tax-deductible donations. Consider this: fundraising allows people who may not have the opportunity to travel on a mission project to participate in this essential work by donating towards your participation. In another sense, “some give by going, while others go by giving.” Allowing others to support us through their financial commitments and prayers is essential to the success of CCO Missions!

There is a $500 non-refundable payment due upon acceptance, the remainder of the cost must be paid according to the payment schedule that you will receive in your acceptance package.

Finally, we’re here to help you! We know support raising can seem intimidating. In you acceptance package we’ll provide you with a number of tools that will help be more confident in raising support. And of course, you can always get in touch with us by email at missions@cco.ca, or by phone, 613-736-1999.

We lead evangelization missions around the world.
