My Story
Hello! My name is Amber, and I currently live in Ottawa, where I was born and raised. I come from a big family with 5 siblings and now 14 nieces and nephews, who are such a joy to me. I studied Urban Planning during my undergraduate degree at Concordia in Montreal. After some time, I decided to go back to school, and took a certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Toronto Metropolitan University before doing a masters in Public Policy & Administration at Carleton University. I now work for the Government of Canada as a policy analyst in housing and infrastructure.
I was raised Catholic and feel blessed to have had the example of both my parents and grandparents actively involved in the Church. I always had a relationship with Jesus but struggled to find my way through high school. I realized parts of myself needed healing from my past, and I believe that God is working in my life, calling me to “be strong and courageous” to overcome my struggles!
Why do I want to be on Mission?
A few years ago, I began a spiritual journey of deepening my relationship with God and committed to putting Him at the centre of my life. I began volunteering at my local church doing alpha ministry, pastoral care, and got involved in various young adult ministries. I found Godly community, joined a life group and started in CCO faith studies. We will be starting “Activate” mid-August, which is comparable to “Commission”, and teaches about going out in faith and sharing your faith with others, which is very fitting as I prepare to go on mission in October! To me, going on mission is an act of stepping out in faith (no pun intended). It can feel scary, like with any new experience, but this is my yes to Him and I’m excited to see what God has planned for me!
Thank you for taking the time to hear a bit about me, and for your support! It’s greatly appreciated!
