My Story

Hello, my name is Diya Kavalam! I’m currently a fourth-year student at Carleton University studying Computer Science. I was born and raised in Ottawa and am the oldest of three siblings. I grew up in a Catholic family, but it wasn’t until later in life that my faith really became my own.

I love spending time outside, reading, music, and being with friends and family. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new places and cultures. I value community and the relationships in my life, and I’m always grateful for opportunities to grow, learn, and meet new people. Over the past few years, my faith has played a big role in shaping who I am today, and the Lord has placed a desire on my heart to share it with others!

Why do I want to be on Mission?

As I was discerning whether to go on mission, I spent time in prayer and reading Scripture. One moment that really stayed with me was when I opened the Bible and read, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” In that moment, I truly felt like God was speaking to me personally and inviting me to respond. Although I was raised Catholic, my faith didn’t become my own until later in life. I used to go to church simply because it was what my family did, but everything changed after attending a retreat where I encountered God’s personal love for me in a real way. From that point on, my relationship with Him became something personal, and it completely transformed my life.

When I started university, I joined a faith study, which eventually led me to become a leader on campus. Through leading studies, I saw firsthand how much people are searching for God and how deeply the world is thirsting for Him. I witnessed lives being changed and people encountering Jesus in a new way, and it stirred a desire in me to share His word with others. That desire led me to apply for this mission, even though I knew there were many obstacles along the way. Time and time again, the Lord provided and opened doors, reminding me of Proverbs 3:5 : “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight”. I truly believe He is calling me to step out in faith, and now He is leading me to Wales. I would really appreciate your prayers as I prepare for this mission, that I may trust Him fully and be open to whatever He wants to do through me.
