Elma A.

Hi there! My name is Elma, and I’m from Nigeria but have spent most of my life in Thailand and here in Canada. I’m currently living in Calgary and after nearly a decade, I still haven’t quite gotten used to the cold. I’m in my final year at the University of Calgary studying Health Sciences with a concentration in Psychology. I love working with kids and find so much joy in that. I volunteer with the youth group at my parish and have led faith studies during all four years on campus, which has been such a meaningful part of my university experience. I also work at the education department at Calgary Humane Society, where I get to interact with cute animals and help with summer camps for kids, birthday parties and other events. In my free time, I love reading novels. I also enjoy journaling and a good movie. After graduation, I hope to pursue pediatric studies and continue working closely with children in both faith and health care settings.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

I went on a CCO mission in my first year of university, and it was truly life-changing. During that time, I grew deeply in my faith, recommitted to placing Jesus at the center of my life, and formed friendships that continue to shape me today. Now, nearly four years later, I feel called to bring that experience full circle by ending my final year with another mission. Over the past few years, I’ve grown so much in my faith and feel more equipped to serve and step outside of my comfort zone. The story of the Canadian Martyrs is deeply moving to me, and it would be such a gift to do mission on the same grounds where they lived out their faith so courageously. As I prepare to graduate, this mission feels like an important stepping stone, helping equip me to proclaim my faith beyond the campus setting. I can’t wait to see what Jesus has in store for me!
