My Story
Hello! My name is Eunice, and I was born and raised in Calgary. My family is originally from the Philippines, which has shaped a lot of who I am and the importance I place on family and faith. I am currently in my second year of nursing at the University of Calgary, and I am very passionate about helping others. One of the things I love most about nursing is how rewarding it is to care for people and support them during difficult moments. My family is one of the most important parts of my life. I am very close with them and always look forward to catching up with my parents and sharing about my day, especially after a long one. I enjoy music, scenic views, and meaningful conversations. I grew up in the faith, but it was not until I started university that I became involved with CCO, seeking community and fellowship. Through that experience, I found exactly that, grew deeper in my faith, and discovered what it truly means to live as a Catholic Christian.
Why do I want to be on Mission?
Over the past few years, through CCO, I’ve begun to see that faith is meant to be shared and lived out, not kept to ourselves. Learning more about the Great Commission has helped me understand that following Christ often means stepping beyond what feels comfortable and trusting Him with something bigger. As someone who is naturally introverted, this mission feels both exciting and challenging. Still, I truly believe God is inviting me to take this step in faith, grow in courage, and serve others while witnessing how He is working in the lives of people from different communities. I also felt especially drawn to the pilgrimission at Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland. Last year, on my birthday, I attended Mass at a church I had chosen without knowing that the relics of the Canadian Martyrs would be there as part of a tour to make them more accessible to those unable to visit the Shrine. That experience stayed with me, and it feels especially meaningful now to have the opportunity to visit the Shrine myself. This year marks 100 years of the Shrine as a place of pilgrimage and prayer, and 400 years since Jean de Brébeuf arrived in Huronia. Since this will be my first mission, the chance to serve in a place that honours the Canadian Martyrs while welcoming pilgrims from around the world feels especially meaningful. My hope is simply to be an extension of the hands and feet of our Lord, serving others with openness and allowing Him to use me as a vessel.
