Ezinne I.

Hey! My name is Ezinne. I am studying Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in Biomedical Engineering) at the University of Calgary. I come from a big family and have grown to love having a busy schedule filled with different activities. So many extracurricular activities make up who I am. You can find me playing the viola and singing in my church’s choir or playing on the dinos rugby team. With my engineering department, I am able to partake in a variety of design competitions, go on international trips to remote communities to volunteer, and introduce young girls to STEM through workshops. My career aspirations are in the field of biomechanics and I am really excited about the intersection of sports and biomedical engineering, helping people move better.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

As a student athlete in STEM, I have a very packed schedule but the most meaningful club I joined this year was the Catholic Christion Outreach (CCO). This club has helped me to grow so much in my relationship with God. I have been Catholic all my life, but like many young adults today, it was just something in the back of my mind. I would go to church on Sundays out of habit and then go about the rest of my week forgetting about it until it came around again. It felt like God was something that was nice to have there, a safety net off in the distance. Going into the school year, a series of season ending injuries had me looking for God more and more. I was experiencing glimpses of Him in a way I had never before and it drew me closer to Him. I joined CCO at the start of the school year and through it, I came to have a deep relationship with God, seeing Him everywhere everyday. The peace and joy I experienced this year is indescribable. As I have received, I want to share this gift with others who do not know who God truly is. That is why I want to go on this mission. I want to be able to accompany people on their faith journey wherever they are and have them experience the fullness of life. This is me answering a call from God. The things I will learn in these 3 weeks and the lives I will impact will last a life-time. Filled with the gifts of the spirit I will be able to integrate this into my life in Calgary as well and I simply can not wait. I would love for you to be a part of my journey!
