My Story

Hola! My name is Gabriela, and I am a beloved daughter of God. I can confidently say this now, but it wasn’t always the case. Although I’ve always had a soft spot for Jesus, moving from Mexico to Canada rocked my world. Navigating the transition from elementary school to high school wasn’t easy, as my focus was to prove my worth through achievements. Thankfully, when all felt lost, Jesus gently pulled me back toward him through a faith study some of you may already know — Discovery. It was then that I experienced a deep conversion of the heart and said a big “YES” for Jesus to be my centre. The rest has been a chain of yeses that have only brought immense blessings into my life; from singing in my church’s choir, to feeling called to experience The Rescue Project and shortly after leading the faith study with amazing friends, to diving deep through Duc in Altum, God continues to work in my life — and now it’s my turn to say yes to the CCO Camino de Santiago mission and share what he has taught me.

A few other things about myself: I’m the middle child of a beautiful family of five. My family is my foundation and biggest support group, along with my tight-knit group of friends from all different walks of life. I currently work in change management despite graduating as an accountant. And what I love can be summed up in three categories: nature, food, and music. I love long hikes that end with dark chocolate and strawberries at the top of a mountain. I love cooking a hearty Mexican meal to share with my loved ones. I love singing any sappy song you can think of, because the melodies and lyrics are deep and dramatic. And I love a great dance party, whether it’s salsa, bachata, or just fist-bumping with friends. I love life and laughter — and all of this is grounded in my faith and my relationship with Jesus.

Why do I want to be on Mission?

It’s been my dream to go on a mission and serve others for several years. And when this opportunity came up, I knew it was because God had carefully selected it for me. Three of my favourite things to do are talk about Jesus, go on an adventure, and indulge in deep conversations — which is exactly what the CCO Camino de Santiago mission is all about. This mission means I get to step out into the unknown, take a leap of trust, and allow myself to be surprised by how the Holy Spirit moves within me to grow in holiness, all while accompanying fellow pilgrims in their journey of faith. So, thank you for joining me in this journey through your prayers and support. I’m so excited to witness the fruits of this mission and share them with you!
