Isabel A.

I was born and raised in Vancouver, which means I love the mountains, the oceans, and the wildlife; I grew up swimming in cold water and climbing peaks with my siblings. My parents are from Mexico, which means I also love tacos. (who doesn’t?) and I am bilingual. I am currently studying philosophy and english at UBC, with a specialization in aesthetics in a Christ-centered world. I love to explore non-physical themes like love, anger, jealousy, hope, and other complicated but necessary aspects of life. St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas are especially big motivators for my love of knowledge, and of course greek classics like Plato and Aristotle. I am also a big writer; I hope to be published one day, whether it’s a reflection on the passion of Christ or poetry about that one time I almost capsized a boat because a fish jumped inside.

In my spare time, you can find me reading, writing poetry, being really funny, drinking coffee, thrifting, hiking, or dressing like a tree (brown and green).

Why do I want to be on Mission?

In my time with CCO, I’ve come to learn more and more how to share His word, His goodness and His love with the people on campus. Through faith studies and personal accompaniment, I’ve had the chance to see Christ work in the lives of students. I feel a heartbroken tug in my heart when someone I love does not know Jesus; this mission is one of those ways I can share Him with people who’ve never encountered Him, or who know of Him but not personally. I love Rome; I went with my dad in February for the Jubilee of Artists, and to be able to go again with a mission of evangelization is amazing. There is so much rich history, and in this year of our Lord, I feel now is the time to be in Vatican and to be doing good work for Him. “Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy…” (Psalm 126:6)
