Kiara M.

Hi! My name is Kiara, but feel free to call me Kia 🙂 I’m from Ottawa, Ontario and I’m the youngest of three girls. I grew up in a Catholic home that was always filled with music. That’s probably why my sisters and I all have a great passion for worshipping Jesus! I play piano and sing every Sunday at my home parish, and It brings me so much joy to lead others in worship.

I’m now in my first year at the University of Ottawa for health sciences. My hope is to become a science high school teacher, but wherever I end up, I know that His plan for me is a good one!

Why do I want to be on Mission?

Growing up, I pursued a relationship with God mostly out of fear that I might not get to heaven. I was constantly anxious and unsure of His love for me. In high school, I was stuck in a hard season and I desperately needed Him. During that time, I experienced God in a really profound way. In times where I felt hopeless, I cried out to Him, and in the same way that Jesus called Nathanael (John 1:48), I felt like He was saying to me “I see You.” However, it was not until earlier this year that I intentionally pursued God out of true freewill. I wanted to get to know Him personally, not out of fear or desperation, but out of love.

This year at Rise Up, a CCO conference, while feeling the tenderness of God’s love, I felt myself saying “I will go anywhere for You Jesus!”. I wanted to share this sweet and personal love that He poured over me. I wasn’t certain about my abilities to evangelize others or answer their questions, but I am certain of His love for me and His love for the lost sheep. I trust that with the Holy Spirit, Jesus will reach others through me even in a country that is not my own.
