Thursday 14 January 2016, the day on which I made the decision to place Jesus at the centre of my life. I will remember this day forever as it is the most life-giving decision that I have ever made, and one that has led me to be a missionary today.
I am the youngest of three children along with my siblings Chiedza and Kudakwashe, and loving parents. I am from Harare, the sunshine city and capital of Zimbabwe. When I was growing up, my parents introduced me to the Catholic faith. I am very grateful to them and the large role they have played in guiding me towards God. Over time, without realizing it, a large part of my identity became connected to recognition for excelling in school and sport, and I felt a lot of pressure to maintain this level of performance. I was very involved in my parish, and even though I thought that I was doing everything that I was supposed to be doing, I still felt as though something was missing in my heart, and I later came to know that it was a personal relationship with Jesus.
I came to Canada in 2016 to study at Saint Mary’s University. I met CCO in my first semester. A CCO missionary shared a booklet which explained the basics of the Catholic faith: that God created us and loves us personally, that our sin has separated us from Him, and that Jesus died on the cross paying the price for my sin to restore my relationship with the Father; all of which I had grown up knowing. I had not heard the last part in such a direct way, the invitation for me to respond to Jesus’ desire to have a personal relationship with me. I said yes and found freedom in God that one cannot find anywhere else, freedom in His love for me which did not depend on doing things. And not only this, in saying yes, He wouldn’t take anything away but instead would give me everything! He would bring me true life. I have experienced this joy that comes from a relationship with Him. I want other students and other people to experience this joy and fulfillment which Christ offers. All we have to do is to say yes.
I will be serving in the Finance Department at CCO’s National Headquarters. This means that I will be working to ensure that campus missionaries, and other National Headquarters missionaries, are able to share the gospel with students without limits. I am honoured to be able to serve in this way and play my part in the movement. I look forward to interacting with supporters who partner with CCO, together with whom through the power of God, the mission of spreading the gospel and ultimately renewing the world is advanced.
ONGOING PRAYER REQUESTS
Please pray for me in this ministry, that everything I do no matter how big or small, I would do in love and for the glory of God.
