Jason Banas

I always loved being in control, thinking that giving God control meant losing everything I cared about. Even though I had it all, deep down I felt empty, trapped by my habits and sin until the day after Christmas 2023, when my girlfriend of 3.5 years broke up with me, leaving me completely lost. Desperate, I finally surrendered fully to Jesus: “God, take control of everything.” Almost immediately, I felt a wave of peace flow into me like never before and suddenly having the biggest smile on my face as I heard God gently telling me the words: “Everything is going to be okay.” Since then, my life has transformed entirely, I’ve grown to be the best version of myself. I am now happier, stronger, and closer to God than ever, realizing that giving Him control didn’t cost me anything, instead, it has truly given me everything.

My Mission

This winter semester, I am starting a new chapter as a full time campus missionary with CCO at Memorial University in St. John’s Newfoundland!

Since joining CCO at my campus in Montreal as a student, I’ve had this tug on my heart to share the gospel with those around me. Yet, with my plans and ambitions I was looking forward to pursuing after graduating, I was faced with the fear of missing out on what the world had to offer.

Then Jesus spoke these words to me:

“What is that to you? Follow me!” John 21:22.

Those words confirmed for me where Jesus wants me to be and it has been such a blessing to grow with CCO! Now, I look forward to continue growing in mission over this next year at St. John’s!
